The Last Zolfa-Thuran

November 2003 was a pretty exciting time for fans of Doctor Who - there was a deluge of merchandise in the shops, a brand new series had finally been announced by BBC1 and Meglos was being repeated on UK Gold. Don't look at me like that...

In the months leading up to the show's 40th anniversary, barely a day went by without UK Gold showing at least one episode of Who (sadly now, seven years later, classic series repeats are few and far between on British television). Adventures from the 1980s were being aired on weekend mornings, Jon Pertwee's first season filled a slot on Saturday afternoons and the whole of Tom Baker's tenure was screened weeknights at 6pm, beginning with the first two episodes of Robot on 4th August 2003. Happy days!

The concluding half of season 18 story Meglos (listed as Part 2 of 2) was screened on Tuesday 18th November 2003 between 6-7pm; UK Gold edited out the episode caption for part three.

During that hour, the following programme trails were aired:

Dr Who @ 40 Weekend (this weekend from 7am)
specially filmed promos - 10 second & 30 second versions

Big Comedy Thursday
featuring Blackadder, Absolutely Fabulous & I'm Alan Partridge

Dalziel and Pascoe (Monday 9pm)

Hope For Blokes (Friday)
featuring trilogies of Only Fools And Horses & Men Behaving Badly

UKG2
promo for evening-line up on the channel that we now call Dave

Delia's Winter Collection (UKFood)

You can also see a short glimpse of UK Gold's interactive text service, which was available by pressing the red button. Must have forgotten I was recording!

Hope you've enjoyed this package of clips! We'll be having a proper look back at UK Gold's Dr Who @ 40 Weekend during November. Bye for now...

Does anyone know what show that 'so tell me something before you bring on the person' soundbite comes from? Ever since I realised that 'YOU ARE BEING TAKEN' comes from Star Trek I wondered if maybe the other one was from Jonathan Creek - it does sound a little like Alan Davies...
