Killing In The Name (Of All That Is Evil)

Ah, the Black Guardian. What a legend! Sure he ranted and raved about killing our Doctor, but any bloke that can come across as even remotely menacing whilst wearing a dead bird on his head and something the Cat from Red Dwarf might have created has got to have your respect...

Doctor Who: Mawdryn Undead
UK Gold - Sunday 20th October 2002
1.00-2.45am (repeated 7.10-9.00am)

The big guy returned (sans goatee) in 1983's Mawdryn Undead, one of the better stories from Doctor Who's twentieth anniversary season. The story received several screenings on the late, once great satellite TV channel UK Gold during the Nineties and Naughties; these clips come from the early hours of Sunday 20th October 2002, when UK Gold showed all four episodes as an 'omnibus edition' between 1.00-2.45am. Promos for Monday Night Comedy (including 'Allo 'Allo! and Dad's Army), Scream Team (screened on Living TV), Silent Witness and the film The Devil's Advocate were screened during the commercial breaks.

Thanks to regular contributor kinggodzillak for supplying the clips, hope you enjoyed them! WhoGold will return on Sunday 15th May 2011, by which time I might have finally worked out what the hell was going on during 'Day Of The Moon'. Wish me luck...

  1. I see with this Omnibus edition of Mawdryn, There's no cliffhanger sting unlike other omnibus editions where you can hear the sting before it goes to the break-bumper.

  2. They were still using the same transmission tapes, and the cuts to the break-bumper were often very abrupt! I remember that telephone ringing got on my tits after a few weeks! :-)
