The Quest Is The Quest!

It's a few minutes after ten o'clock on the morning of Easter Sunday 1994, and on a quiet little television channel, an extraordinary time and space machine called the TARDIS is drifting towards the very edge of the known universe...

Doctor Who: Underworld
Sunday 3rd April 1994
UK Gold (10.00am-12.00pm)

The video above is introduced by presenter and voice over artist Glen Allen, who provided the majority of UK Gold's continuity for almost four years during the Nineties. Trailers for Remo: Unarmed and Dangerous (Tonight 11.20pm) and Top Of The Pops (Saturday & Sunday 7pm) aired prior to the Doctor Who omnibus.

Something of a curiosity followed Underworld, as UK Gold suffered technical problems with a break in transmission lasting around 32 seconds, with no picture or sound. The following text then appeared on-screen:

A short moment later, programmes continued with the scheduled episode of BBC drama Survivors. The reason for the technical hitch? My bet is the person responsible must have fallen asleep during Underworld... easily done...

Thanks for looking! Come back next week, when WhoGold will be involved with intrigue at the Court of Frank Windsor! See you then.

  1. I've found a recording of this from the same day except there's trailers after Dr Who and Ident into Popeye. No breakdown at all.
